My last post was about not jumping all over Dean for trivial bullshit. Well here's something that isn't trivial:
If elected, (Dean) promised to raise the national minimum wage to $7 per hour, up from $5.15.
Oh shit. This guy is more clueless than I thought. Seriously, Dean, take Economics 101 before thinking about insane bullshit like that. Why don't you just throw us into another Depression while you're at it?
Deangore is obviously pandering for the vote by saying this. Too bad no one on the national stage while challenge this mode of thinking and how destructive it could be.
I'm probably going to piss a lot of people off her, but then again I've never been much on caring about that.
Let me just say that this whole crucifying Dean over his remarks about Bush and 9/11 needs to stop. It's false, it's unfair, and quite frankly I expect better from my conservative colleagues.
Dean never said he believed that Bush knew about 9/11 before it happened. He was commenting on some of the wild theories that are out there. He was speaking casually about it, which is something I think we need more of in politics today.
True, what he said could be skewed into the meaning he's being brow beaten for, but I don't think that's what he meant. Besides, I'm not going to play the Gottcha! game.
We get PO'd when the left twists words around that our guys say (Limbuagh, Lott) just to make a criticism and I think that is what the right is doing know.

We shouldn't have to sink to that level to harp on Dean. His politics provide plenty of blogging material without the use of these tactics.
I just heard something sickening. Someone just told me a true story that makes my stomach churn. I feel disgusted and angry as hell. Allow me to retell it and see how it makes you feel.
This lady I work with began talking about her family, more specifically her sister. Five years ago she and her new husband were living in a small apartment. She became pregnant and one night the husband got drunk and they began to argue because he had spent all of their savings at a titty bar. He became angry and messed her up, placing her in the confines of a wheel chair for life. He did minimal time for assault and battery and then, of course, she took him back so he could come home and help raise their daughter. They had two more children and made it by always on the brink of poverty until one night when the husband car-jacked a Marine, murdering him and stealing his car. He was arrested a few hours later with a couple ounces of cocaine on him and his blood alcohol level through the roof.
Papa went away.
Now this woman lives alone with her three children and his confined to a wheelchair. Her children, left to grow up with the street as their father, are out of control. The oldest child, a thirteen year old girl, just came home from school last week with morning sickness. At thirteen. Years. Old. Every night the home is filled with other kids, ranging in age from eight to sixteen. Most of the kids are dropout gang members with warrants out for them. The mother is continually threatened by the kids. Should she try and call the police or crackdown on her daughter they will kill her.
The other day at work the woman who has been telling me about this tried to call her sister from work to see how she was doing. The conversation lasted about two minutes. The lady told me her sister couldn?t talk because the kids in the house were listening on the other phone to see who she was talking to and what she was saying.
This woman is trapped in a wheel chair, and held prisoner in her own home by her own children and their friends.
Do you think daddy will be able to help when he gets out of jail on parole in a few more years?
This is the type of sickness that plagues the dark corners of our society. This is the type of stuff that happens in those shitty homes we see when driving through that shit-hole part of town.
Will reparations fix this?
Will money fix this?
Will pity fix this?
Can we fix this?
Yes we can. But the solution goes against everything these well-meaning social workers believe. What I suggest will make every single everyday level-headed American say ?Hell yes!? What I suggest will make every conservative say ?Damn straight!? What I am about to say will make every bleeding heart liberal become disgusted and launch in a tirade of calling me a heartless prick. That?s how I know I?m right. When the people who are wrong on this issue down to their very bones and have in process created more crime ridden slums think my idea is revolting then I know I?m on the right track.
First of all, we, as a society and as individuals, have to throw our foot down on the ground so hard it cracks the earth?s crust. This type of shit has been allowed to carry on for far too long. It was allowed to happen in the name of forgiveness and mercy but that has gotten us nowhere but in deep fucking shit.
If a little kid steals a candy bar and the clerk forgives him when he confesses then that?s mercy I?m fine with. When a thirteen year old boy pulls a glock and threatens a grown woman in a wheelchair in her own home then my tolerance has run out. Sorry, call me an ass if you want.
We need to draw a line in the sand. We need to make it clear that there are things called laws and codes of conduct that will be followed. The laws come from the state; the codes of conduct come from home.
So you see, this War on Shitholes is a two front war. One front involves the state; the other is in the home.
We?ll begin with the state. Here we need to completely reform the punishment process. When we punish, we must do it severely because part of punishment is deterrence. Everyone who breaks the law will made an example of. Don?t like it? Don?t break the law. We aren?t holding hands here. You fuck up, you pay, end of story. When it comes to murder, rape or any sexual child abuse I want one strike and you?re out. Punishment is a life sentence with absolutely no chance of parole. For the severe cases we?re going with the death penalty with only one appeal per case.
I'm not implying a police state, I'm implying reform to the punishment for laws already in place.
Our jails should be rebuilt. Each cell should be small with a toilet and a bed. No TV, no movies ever. There should be a library so people may educate themselves and there can also be newspapers and the such, but otherwise nothing of entertainment value. Meals should be simple and routine. Exercise should be very minimal and uneventful. The idea is that one serving a life sentence should have nothing to look forward to other than James Fennimore Cooper or death. Let?s stop treating inmates like VIPs and get back in the mind frame that these people killed or raped someone or molested a small child. I don?t ask for cruelty or dirty prisons, just punishment so severe someone will certainly think four or five times before committing such an act. If you violated these most important of laws, then the rest of your life will be desolate and remote.
For other lesser crimes, such as theft, I would have people go to the same such prisons only not for life, obviously. But give them enough of a taste to know they don?t ever want to go back.
The second front, and the more important one, is in the home. This is where the next generation of people is raised and are installed with their moral values that they will carry with them the rest of their lives. I can?t begin stress how important the raising of a child is to their overall character later in life. By teaching our kids the difference between what?s right and what?s wrong and raising them to understand what is acceptable behavior and what isn?t we are laying the groundwork for a happy productive member of society.
First of all, this "time out" shit has got to go. Punishing a child just by making them sit in one place for an amount of time is not effective. I never knew what a "time out" was until I was twenty-one and someone told me about it. I got a good laugh. Explain to me how that is a deterrence. Explain to me how this is ever going to keep a child from doing what he did again.
I was hit as a child. I wasn?t beaten, I wasn?t abused, I was hit by my parents to scare the living shit out of me so I wouldn?t do it again. My father never left a bruise and never drew blood. In fact, I was hit very little because after the first time I learned it was a place I didn?t want to go.
You see, parenting is a challenge. There?s no other way around it. You can?t take an approach to child raising that will get you by with minimal fuss. If you do, then you are doing yourself, your child, and society a big disservice. Raising a child requires all the energy and knowledge and level-headedness you can muster. It?s not easy and if you can?t hack it, then don?t have children, please. But you?d be surprised how easily this extra energy and knowledge automatically comes to you when you really care.
A lot of people completely miss the obvious fact that when you are raising a child you are raising another human being who will one day find his place among society with the knowledge and moral values you installed in him or her. When people begin to forget this and focus more on the extra work and time involved and look at it as a chore then we begin to have children coming into society who have been raised half-assed. This is the source of the problem; people who were raised half-assed or weren?t raised at all.
Take this thirteen year old boy who threatened a mother in a wheelchair with a gun. What do you think his parents were like? Mother probably got pregnant when she was young and probably wasn?t raised very well herself. Dad skipped town because he wasn?t a real man and accepted the responsibility for his actions. Mom and grandma had to raise the child and ended up giving the child more grief for being an intrusion than guidance as a young man. So he grew up believing the rap songs; that guns and violence were an acceptable way to get through life and anyone who stood in your way could just as well be handled as such. To bad there wasn?t a responsible father there to teach him the difference between music entertainment and reality.
This kid is nothing but an impediment to society now, whether it?s all is his fault or not. He will grow with the attitude he has now and will probably get some girl pregnant in a year or so.

Kids who are already like this are lost be a certain age. The focus must be placed on early childhood and must remain strong throughout his or her's years until they?re ready to head into the world on their own.
So you see, events like the one I told about at the very beginning happen all the time. It?s pathetic and maddening.
But it?s our problem, nobody else?s.
I grew in a place and time when if I went to the grocery store with my father and he let me wander off to look at something and I got out of line another parent would scold me and escort me back to my father and explain what I did to him. My father would thank the person sincerely and take over. That doesn?t happen anymore.
Is it because people don?t want to take on the responsibility when they see a kid acting up in public? Or is it because people don?t want other people telling their kids what to do? Both probably and that?s too bad.
I wish there was a way to bring that back. Maybe there is. Maybe if we all begin to concentrate together on how we raise our family together we can see the benefits of this. Maybe if we begin to take our eyes more away from our careers and schedules and pay attention to our kids more we can become a better society. I hope we can. I truly sincerely do.
Because what?s the point of life? Your career? No, no, not by a long shot. No matter where you work or what you do you can be replaced and the ball will continue to roll without you. The meaning to life has two goals. One is taking care of your family, seeing that there feed, safe, and being raised properly. The other goal is to have a little fun in the process. No matter how much money you make or how much you own you can?t take one damn bit of it with you into the ground. The main thing is to see that what your parents instilled in you carries on into your children and grandchildren after you die.
That?s all there is to it, pal. It?s cut and dry. Raise your family well, have a little fun and don?t be an asshole to others. That?s the meaning of life.
Perhaps this was a pointless rant. Maybe, maybe not. This is just how I feel because when I look around or hear stories from coworkers I can?t help but get worked up over the sorry state the ideal of family values has gone into.
If we don?t fight back, no one will.

Been doing a lot of thinking about regionalism in the United States lately. Maybe I'll have something on it up later.

So Europe is superior to us. That's what they claim. They always snub their nose at us and claim to be doing the morally superior thing and oppose our actions. Many leftists seem to buy this shit too and whenever you state the obvious that European countries oppose us on things simply for the sake of opposing America they usually reply that it's a good thing they do because the hegemonic imperialist giant (the U.S.) needs to be put in her place.
Does logic reside anywhere?
Well, Ilka Schroeder, a German member of the EU parliament, gave a speech recently that spelled it out.
"The Europeans supported the Palestinian Authority with the aim of becoming its main sponsor, and through this, challenge the U.S. and present themselves as the future global power. Therefore, the Al-Aksa Intifada should be understood as a proxy war between Europe and the United States."
Tell me this isn't one of the most disgusting, revolting, and utterly outrageous things you've ever heard. What if Rummy gave a speech at Harvard and said that the US was always opposing the EU to keep them behind us on the world stage. Tell me there wouldn't be international outrage.
EUies would be shitting their "protests" all over the EU parliament floor.
Anyway, the EU supports the PLO for the purpose of pushing herself ahead of the United States as the global super power. Is this morally superior? To be morally superior you have to support an organization with terrorist ties that repeatedly attack their neighbor and kill innocent civilians for the sole sake of one-upping your "rival"?
Look, the EU will never be a global power over America. It just won't happen. I could get into that lengthy discussion but it should be obvious. The important thing to remember is that every time the EU or European countries oppose us it is not for noble reasons as the loony left would have you think.

Occasionally one can get fed up with the Christmas Spirit. With the endless mobs of holiday shoppers, the insane drivers around shopping areas, and coming within three inches of falling from a ladder and breaking your neck while hanging lights on the house all in the name of The Spirit, you can find yourself quickly having enough.
But when the day comes and you get to sit by in a robe and slippers during the opening of presents you realize it's all worth it.
All in the name of one Arab Jew (whose name escapes me) who was born two thousand years ago. Heh heh.
Merry Christmas everyone. Get off the net and enjoy the day, no matter who you are or where you happen to be. Today is a day of celebration for Christians, atheists, and agnostics alike.
So now we?re moving surface-to-air missiles around Washington and using jet fighters to patrol the skies over major US cities this holiday. It?s an orange Christmas and it makes me sick. Do you really think it?s possible to defend every inch of US soil from terrorist attacks with fighter jets, missiles launchers and the best military in the world? No, we can?t. Not if the attack has already been planned and set into motion. Three terrorists could pop up at your local shopping mall with .50 cal machine guns and start mowing people down. They could load a U-Haul with C4 and drive it into a bus station. They could also strap on an explosive belt and walk through the front doors of a school and level a portion of the next generation of Americans.
Once they?ve been trained, financed, equipped and have slipped into our country we are already in deep shit. If they move on major landmarks, public buildings or major cities, we could have a good shot at bringing them down. But how is the Department of Homeland Defense going to even have a prayer at stopping a guy with a fake driver?s license, a rental car and 1,000 rounds of ammunition from walking into an elementary school in the middle of Kansas?
That?s the price of being a free country. In a police state, it would be much, much harder for anyone (especially a foreign born) to move anywhere with anything illegal. In such a case the police would hop all over anything that looked even slightly suspicious and arrest and detain at will. But our society is so free that this helps terrorists move about, plan, and execute operations. If we want our society to remain free, we have to move before they hit our shores.
Because, you see, terrorism, and more specifically Radical Islam, is a disease, a virus, a sickness that plagues parts of the world and spreads when left unchecked and untreated. Much like cancer it eats away at everything freedom lovers have worked so hard to build over the centuries. It erodes and kills without remorse, without pity. Men, women, and children are all the same as long as they?re dead to these people. They cannot be bartered with, they cannot be negotiated with and they will not stop unless they?re all dead or we are reduced to rabble third-world nation.
So what do we do?
The obvious.
We fight back with extreme prejudice. We go to the source of the problem and kill it. We rip out the heart of the beast and burn the remains. We fight, but we also take the fight to them instead of waiting for another smoldering pile of rubble with thousands of dead Americans beneath before we act.
We are doing that now, but more work must be done. We must not stop, we must not retreat, we must not relent until every last person who means to destroy us has flies dancing on their eyeballs.
Don?t make me go through the whole song and dance about how this does not apply to moderate or liberal Muslims and innocent Mid-East civilians. If you infer from this piece that I want all Muslims dead than you?re an ass who?s politicizing a major threat and you need to take a long look in the mirror and think about what we?re discussing and the severity of the situation.
What will next Christmas be? Orange again? Red? Yellow? Either way I will still be disgusted. I don?t want my child growing up with any kind of color code system. I don?t want to be old and sitting around the Christmas tree telling the grandchildren about stories of Christmas past and have to start out with ?Well, I remember it was orange that year??
I want to make this color code thingy to be remembered only in history books as quickly as possible.

On November 5 of this year Kim duToit posted an essay entitled The Pussification of the Western Male. He hit the nail on the head. I had been feeling the same thing for a long ass time and yet he summed it up concisely almost as if he took his argument, wrapped it up tight, and fired the mother-fucker like a missile straight at your head. If you?re a male and the piece angered you then thank you for proving his point, you brain washed asshat.
What got me thinking about this again was this commercial they?ve been running lately on TV for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. In the commercial this broad is driving around in a car talking about how great and convenient this service is. Then she pulls into her driveway and says it?s great for any car or truck you may need and the car morphs into a truck full of paint, lumber and everything else. Then she grabs a can of paint and hands it to her husband (who is mostly hidden from the camera) and in a perky voice says ?Your honey-do list just got a little bit longer. Sorry!?
Every time I see that commercial I want to smack that bitch through the windshield. I would never actually do it, of course, because I?m a man and a real man doesn?t hit women. But the anger is still there. Why? Because it?s sickening and degrading. My wife would never say anything to me like that. And no, she?s not ?trained? or anything, she?s just respectful. If she needs or wants something done she asks me with the understanding that I?m doing something else (even if it is watching football or tuning the bow) and I?ll get to it when I can. There?s no fucking ?honey-do? list in my home and if I ever found one it would be on the burn pile before I could get done laughing.
But the commercial, like Kim said about the Cheerios commercial in his essay, proves what has happened to the American male. We used to be frontiersmen, the bread bringers, the authority. Now we are cartoons, furballs, clueless forms of life who could never possibly make it through life without a proper women to keep him in the right direction. Today politicians have to talk about being ?metro-sexuals? to be deemed acceptable. Today we have to be in touch with our ?feminine side.?

What?s happening, I think, is that people are forgetting one simple basic thing; men and women are different. We are, I?m not lying. I?m not implying that one is superior to the other. Us men are just different from women. Men?s brains are programmed one way and women?s brains another. But, like I said, people forget this and so there is the constant push to try and make everyone equal and agreeable. Of course this means men of today have to become more understanding, more in touch, more emotional (meaning more attractive) and in the process become a chick with a penis that society would have grinded to a pulp and spit out a hundred, nay, fifty years ago.
I?m tired of it. I hate it. It?s demoralizing and it?s pathetic to think that a chick with a dick who likes poodles is going to show me how to be a better man. I?m sick of it always being the man?s fault. I?m sick of being told I?m irrelevant. I?m tired of being called a Neanderthal just because I like a whole rack of ribs with extra BBQ while I smoke my pack of Lucky Strike non-filters and drink Budweiser during the Bears game in my leather recliner. I enjoy it, and it ain?t anybody?s damn business.
To me being a man means responsibility. I have a responsibility to be good to my wife and child and see that they?re feed and taken care off. This means working a job and bringing home the money, handling the finances, installing morals in my son while taking care of any potential threat that could come to my household. This does not mean that my wife submits her responsibility entirely to me. She?s accountable for herself and she has an equal responsibility in raising the child. But she doesn?t own me and I don?t own her. We respect each other, just as it should be.
You see, this has something to do with all the anti-Bush sentiment out there. The responsibility of the Commander-in-Chief is to protect the United States from all threats. Bush saw a threat to the country he loves and is sworn to protect. He called them out and when he was told he could do nothing about by other people, he did it anyway because it was his responsibility.
That?s what these bleeding-heart liberal metro-sexuals just can?t fucking understand; that man, a real man from Texas, would do the job he swore to do no matter what. Even if it cost him his career, he would still have had the balls to blow the UN and the EU off and do his duty. That?s what a man does with responsibility, he gets it done.
To draw from two essays from two superb writers one can draw an excellent point. Bill Whittle wrote in his essay Responsibility that as time has gone by the state has taken more and more responsibility from everyday people and we have submitted to this. Kim, in is own way, mentioned that we live in a mommy state. These are both true and are connected. But I believe that not only has our government become mom, it has become the overbearing mother, and this can?t be liked by anyone, man or woman. Our government is a mother that forcefully takes as much money as it wants from us for our own good because we are incapable of doing it ourselves. Our government continually makes more and more laws and restrictions for our own good because we can?t be trusted with cigarettes, guns and everything else considered dangerous. This always makes me think of the movie Demolition Man were monitors on the walls issue tickets with fines for even swearing.
My, how sad it could become.

I?ve watched the pussification happen in the realm of country music as well. There was a time when real country musicians like Johnny Cash, Haggard, and Willie Nelson made music that was true. Now Nashville has become so PC and manufactured that it?s disgusting. It got so bad that when a true country artist like Toby Keith came along from Oklahoma, his record company told him they liked the album he recorded but would only release it when he sung a few more love songs someone else wrote to be on the album. Toby gave them the finger, the record company released him from his contract and so he went to another label and released his album the way he recorded it and it turned out to his biggest seller. Then he came out with ?The Angry American (Courtesy of the Red, White an Blue) and Nashville, the PC filter of country music, went ballistic because Toby represented everything the industry had tried to but down over the last few decades. God forbid a country artist love America and sing about bars, women, and fast cars and pickup trucks and riding down evil doers. Toby Keith is a real man and a real country singer and it?s about damn time.
Garth Brooks, is was just as manufactured for an audience as Britney Spears, needed to go through an identity crisis to decide it was time to cheat on his wife again. Pathetic.
When did the self-confident male go out of style? When did it become necessary for a human male to confer with a women or a focus group on every fucking decision in he life? When did it become fashionable for a male to read a self-help book to reassure himself of what he was doing? Whenever the hell it happened, I must have missed it and I have yet to give a fuck.
I?m 24 and more of man and more of an old fashioned man that half the fuckheads I meet on a regular basis. I take my wife out to dinner and a movie, we go hiking in the hills, I open the door, I treat her parents to dinner. But I also hunt, drink, swear, smoke, and scratch my balls through life. I walk with a swagger and people think I?m arrogant. That?s fine. Ones enemies always misconstrue self-confidence for arrogance.
So America?s becoming pussized. What do you want me to do about it? When the males of a herd become weaker, all that means is that the true dominate alpha-males rise to the top, and that?s what will happen. I can?t change the state of the American male in anyway other than by living my life the way a man does, with fatty beef stew and cigars. If you want to join in, I?m all game. When I read the news piece at Drudge entitled "BBC bosses have banned reporters from calling tyrant Saddam Hussein a former dictator..." I had a short moment of joy as I figured maybe the BBC took the e-mail I sent them into account and were now calling Saddam Hussein "That worthless pile of ass-crust."
But then I remembered that this was the BBC, so my joy pulled a 180 and knew right away that this story was going to be some load of crap.
Guess what? I was right...on the latter, of course.

I should hope not. But it appears as though one Clinton appointed judge disagrees and thinks it's a good idea. Why not let John W. Hinckley Jr. leave prison without supervision? Sounds like a plan.

How does this make sense? In my own mind this sonofabitch needs to be taken out back and beaten to a pulp before he does life imprisonment in Siberia without shoes. But at the very least, he should get life in prison without any chance of parole.
Hell, as much as I hated William Jefferson I would be 100% behind the same punishment for anyone who made an attempt to take him out. You just don't try and kill the Commander-in-Chief without serious consequences. I don't care if well-meaning shrinks think this guy is okay in the noggin, you just don't let a guy like this out again, EVER!
What kind of message does that send? What if John Wilkes Booth had failed and he was let out of prison twenty-one years later? What if Lee Harvey Oswald (for argument's sake pretend he's guilty) had missed Kennedy and was turned loose in the eighties?

Blogging is an extension of oneself. That cannot be denied. All of us who blog use it as our way of expressing ourselves, our views and as our punching bag to get stuff off our chests. We don?t do it for money, we don?t do it for fame, we do it because we love it.
When I began blogging in February last year over at the Yankee Herald, I had an aim; to express my personal take on the ongoing events as well as express my basic conservative principles.
Over time I lost part of that aim.
Granted, I continued to cover events and talk about conservatism, but I don?t feel as though I?m being totally honest with myself. Whenever I?ve written something I?ve always tried to frame it in a way that was more professional and PC than the way I would normally say it if I were speaking frankly to a friend. Yes, I have been pretty frank in some of my language, but the message I?ve conveyed hasn?t truly been from my heart. My slowly decline in readership reflects that, although I don?t blog for hits, it is a good measure as to whether your voice is intriguing or not.
I?m a Midwest farmboy who has a family, a dead-end job and a college degree I?m working on. My views need to come from that person, the real James, not some blog personality I subconsciously created over the past year.
I?ve decided to change that today.
For some of you who DO read this site regularly, you may or may not notice a real change. But for me, it?s something major. I just feel as though it's time to get back to me and to what I am as an American.
I hope I haven?t come off as fake lately; but from rereading some of my stuff here recently that?s the feeling I got.
Thanks to all of you for sticking around. I sincerely hope that my stuff is more interesting and much more honest from here on out.
Secretary-General Annan rejects any trial that could lead to Saddam's execution
UNITED NATIONS (AP) The top U.N. diplomat said Monday he could not support bringing captured Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein before a tribunal that might sentence him to death.''The U.N. does not support death penalty. In all the courts we have set up (U.N. officials) have not included death penalty,'' Secretary-General Kofi Annan said in a brief encounter with reporters at the United Nations.
''And so as secretary-general and the U.N. as an organization are not going to turn around and support a death penalty,'' Annan said.

BAGHDAD, Iraq ? Without firing a single shot, U.S. forces captured Saddam Hussein as he hid in the bottom of a hole in a home near Tikrit, officials announced Sunday at a Baghdad press conference. "Ladies and gentlemen, we got him," L. Paul Bremer, the U.S. administrator in Iraq, announced."The tyrant is a prisoner," Bremer said.
The former Iraqi dictator was captured Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in a cellar in the town of Adwar, 10 miles from Tikrit, ending one of the most intense manhunts in history.
Officials showed a videotape of Saddam, the most-wanted figure by the U.S.-led coalition, as he was being inspected following his capture. He had a long black-and-gray beard and unkempt black hair. Journalists were then shown a video of Saddam after he was shaved.
Iraqi journalists in the audience stood, pointed and shouted "Death to Saddam!" and "Down with Saddam!"
In the capital, radio stations played celebratory music, residents fired small arms in the air in celebration, and others drove through the streets, shouting, "They got Saddam! They got Saddam!"
President Bush learned Saturday afternoon that Saddam might have been seized, and he got the news early Sunday that the military had confirmed that the ex-dictator was in custody. Bush had issued no comment early Sunday morning.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair hailed the capture, saying Saddam "has gone from power, he won't be coming back."
"Where his rule meant terror and division and brutality, let his capture bring about unity, reconciliation and peace between all the people of Iraq," Blair told reporters at his 10 Downing St. office.
About 600 U.S. troops took part in Operation Red Dawn, said Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, the top American general in Iraq. Two other Iraqis were captured along with Saddam, who was found with $750,000 in U.S. currency, Sanchez said.
The operation began after the military received tips from local residents as well as unspecified intelligence, Sanchez said. About 90 minutes after receiving the intelligence, the military launched the raid.
Troops with Task Force 2, the special forces unit set up to go after Saddam, surrounded a farmhouse and looked for the ex-dictator in two specific locations -- dubbed Wolverine One and Wolverine Two -- but initially did not locate him.
The search of the home continued and troops discovered a small hole in the ground. They found Saddam in the hole, which dropped about 6 feet into the ground. An exhaust fan had been installed, indicating the so-called spider hole was an emergency hiding spot.
Sanchez said he had no idea how long Saddam had been at the home in Adwar and could not say if anyone had stepped forward to claim the multi-million dollar reward for his capture.
"Today is a great day for Iraq and the Iraqi people," Sanchez said.
Asked about Saddam's state at the time of his capture, Sanchez said: "He was a tired man, also a man resigned to his fate."
Saddam is talkative and is being cooperative, the general said. He is being held at an undisclosed location.
A delegation of the Iraqi Governing Council hopes to visit Saddam in captivity later Sunday, a spokesman for the council said.
"With the arrest of Saddam, the source financing terrorists has been destroyed and terrorist attacks will come to an end. Now we can establish a durable stability and security in Iraq," said council member Jalal Talabani.
In Baghdad, residents fired small arms in the air in celebration, and gunfire echoed in neighborhoods across the city. Earlier in the day, rumors of the capture sent people streaming into the streets of Kirkuk, a northern Iraqi city, firing guns in the air in celebration.
"We are celebrating like it's a wedding," said Kirkuk resident Mustapha Sheriff. "We are finally rid of that criminal."
"This is the joy of a lifetime," said Ali Al-Bashiri, another resident. "I am speaking on behalf of all the people that suffered under his rule."

Just finished up my American Lit class and only have the final to be done with it. Spent the past couple days at home getting Chritsmas stuff up around the house, playing with the son, tuning the bow, and popping off a few rounds out of my Springfield .30-06 for fun.
Back to seriousness today, though. That essay I thought I'd have up on Monday will be up over the weekend. What can I say, I was so pissed after my beloved Bears blew it to the Packers on Sunday that I haven't been able focus since. Or maybe I'm just lazy?
Please, folks, do not refer to terrorist bombers as "Suicide Bombers." That would imply that A. the purpose of the act was to kill one self, and B. that such an act was honorable when you die for your cause.
Neither of these are true. These people kill innocent civilians.
They are HOMICDE BOMBERS.
